Historical Train Tourism

Take a journey on one of the very first forms of Canadian long-distance transportation and be transported through another era. Learn about the last running steam engine of its kind, the Spirit of Kamloops, which has been lovingly restored by the passionate Kamloops community. Come see this one of a kind piece of history and experience first hand what it was like to live in the 1800s.    The 2141 steam engine sat as a display in Riverside Park until it was set to be demolished. However, the love and passion for the relic were what pulled the Kamloops community together to restore it and get it up and running again. Today, volunteers from all generations help to keep the attraction lively and promote rail history. KHR is an important place to visit as it is an excellent way to understand and experience the old fashioned charm of steam engine rail and Kamloops culture.

Come with your family on the Christmas train ride for hot chocolate and Christmas carols, or take a ride in the summer on the sip and steam wine train after enjoying a wine tasting with your friends from Harper’s Trail Winery. Connecting Community through Tourism

The KHR is a community-based operation that is run almost completely by local volunteers. They emphasize the importance of supporting local businesses by partnering up to promote the growth of Kamloops tourism and community involvement. Connections with the Native bands are crucial as the track runs through the land of the Tk’emlups Te’ Secwepemc on CN rail lines, while each event incorporates products and services from a variety of local businesses. The KHR would not be where it is today without the help of the local community and the partners that support the organization.
